Why Online Business is the Answer
I’ve always been obsessed with things that made me feel important.
Since I was little, I’d focused so much on school to become the top student. Even though some may have called me “a geek”, I was getting attention from parents and teachers.
All of this lasted until the 2nd year of high school when I realised where this was getting me.
I once went to the math & informatics Olympiad. I saw all those “smart” people, and I asked myself “Where are all these guys gonna end up in life?”.
Immediately, I had the answer — they’ll probably be in a high-tech corporation working a 9-5 while being exploited for their knowledge.
This was the moment I realised I didn’t want to end up like this. I wanted a meaningful life, but I was quite far from that.
I was feeling an empty gap in my life
I was living in the shadows of others
I was hiding my pain even from myself
I started to look for an answer.
Why the problem exists in the first place.
We all live in a society which promotes specific career paths that claim to make you “successful”. You are trying or being pushed by external pressure (family, friends, teachers, etc.) to follow those.
Did you ever take a second to think about it?
Why do we let these predefined ideas shape our perception of the world?
Do you really want to pass through life like a spectator from an office window?
Do you think that if you continue on your “safe” path long enough, the meaning in life will come by default, or somebody will come to rescue you? (this was exactly what I thought)
A 9-5 job for your working lifetime of 40-50 years is a long time if the rescue doesn’t come. About 500 months of solid work — if the things will not improve by themselves. And do not forget about the “enormous” number of days off (20-30) per year.
Too many people are living someone else’s life
they are told when to show up at work
they are told when they can go on vacation
they are told what uniform they have to wear at work
they are told if they can’t pick up their kids from school because they get off before
“If you don’t build your Dream, someone else will hire you to build theirs.”
There is another way
You have to zoom out and see the big picture.
We, as humans, use our time and minds to gain skills.
With those, we help others solve their problems.
The job is a way of helping your boss.
An online business is a way of helping people all over the world.
Now, the exciting part begins…
The world is a mirror, not a window — so you get what and how much you give.
In psychology, reciprocity is a social norm which makes us feel compelled to return someone’s favour. The return is usually valued in money when this is a service or product.
The question is — how many bosses do you have at a job? (normally one)
The reach of an online business extends far beyond just your boss, allowing you to connect with numerous people.
Why does it matter?
According to reciprocity, the more people you help, the more value you will get.
The business is not a transition from one to more bosses.
A boss tells you what to do.
The critical difference between an online business and a regular job consists of the problems you must solve — who chooses what you do.
In a regular job, you are assigned tasks that will help your boss. These are not chosen by you.
In an online business, you are the one who chooses what problems you solve. And the people who need the solution to that will come to you.
The mindset holds you back
The biggest misconception is to “work hard at a job until you get enough money and then enjoy life”. If you follow this perspective, you will soon realise that “enough money” will never come and the freedom will be just another dream.
“They never pay the slaves enough so they can get free, just enough so they can stay alive and come back to work. I could see all this. Why couldn’t they?” - Charles Bukowski
This is the place where I messed up.
Deep in my heart, I knew something was wrong.
My mind was closed to any other perspectives. I thought I knew everything.
I wasn’t even enjoying the journey — I was just obsessed with the end goal (huge negative impact on my mindset)
You can have your cake and eat it, too. You don’t have to wait to retire to feel fulfilled.
“Don’t follow a model that doesn’t work. If the recipe sucks, it doesn’t matter how good a cook you are” — Timothy Ferriss.
Online business is a more valuable way of helping others.
By spreading your help across the entire globe with the power of the internet, the value you can get in return is unlimited compared to a typical job.
I guess you’ve heard about freedom before — this is what an online business has the power to give you.
All of these while pursuing your interests.
Time Freedom
Financial Freedom
Location Freedom
Freedom of Choice
How to start your journey
1) Realise how to build a life that you don’t hate
First off, you have to stop living a life for other people.
There is no world where you will live a meaningful life doing whatever your friends, family or others say.
When hard times come, and you’ll need to face problems, the people who told you to take that path won’t give you the solution.
You will blame them for the decision you made. Your life will become a living nightmare — those moments will feel like hell.
On the other hand, when you choose your way in life, a new part of you will rise.
Your character will develop under the responsibility of making your best decisions.
The energy and inspiration to complete your mission will make you feel unstoppable. When the hard times come, you will get through them seamlessly.
2) Discover your interests
On average, a 9-5 job has 260 working days per year, equal to 2100 hours.
What if you spend all that energy and time on what you love?
You have to realise what’s important to you because:
You won’t live forever.
You only have 24 hours per day.
You have to continuously ask yourself what lights you up.
What is my happiness?
What are the things you do when you procrastinate?
It may seem like a fairytale, but you can live like this. Today, with the internet, you can make a living doing anything.
For example, Ryan Kaji, who at the age of 7 made $25 million a year opening toys. Other kids pay for doing this, but he managed to make a living many people just dream of.
3) Help others
Do you remember what we talked about a few minutes ago, about bringing value to the world by helping others?
It all comes down to this…
You give value and get more in return.
After finding and pursuing your interests, you will have some knowledge that may seem “basic” to you but is valuable to others.
If you wake up to serve other people, that is a life of meaning that feels fulfillment.
Imagine your life as a game.
Every skill you have has a specific level.
Your mission is to help those who are 2-3 steps behind you to get to the next stage – you’ve been there before and know how to do it.
Think about the problems you faced at that stage.
Find and communicate with them a way to skip potential dead-end paths in order to get to their goal faster.
By doing so, they will show their appreciation to you with some value in return, helping you to grow and develop at the same time.
It all resumes to the help you can bring into the world.
But it also matters to whom you give it.
The business model is the key to converting your value into the most beneficial outcome.
That’s it for today.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
